Challenge
The challenge of this project was that restaurant visits to Sushi Today had dropped sharply because of the coronavirus pandemic. Lockdowns and strict measures forced the restaurant to close temporarily, which led to a significant decline in brand awarenessBrand awareness: how many people know and recognise your brand. and the brand’s visibility. Restrictions in hospitality made it hard to draw customers to the locations, which weakened customer loyalty. So there was an urgent need to raise brand awareness and make Sushi Today top-of-mindTop-of-mind: the first brand people think of when they feel like something. for customers, despite the restaurant’s temporary closure.
Approach
To reach the right people locally and draw them to the restaurant, we used influencer marketingInfluencer marketing: working with people who have many social media followers and show your brand to their audience., with a focus on foodie influencers. Because foodie influencers’ audiences are real food lovers, we increased the chance of reaching the right target group. Several foodies were invited to visit the restaurant and make their own photos and videos of the atmosphere and the dishes. They shared these with their followers, putting the colourful signature rolls and the “All You Can Eat & Drink” concept in the spotlight, which got their followers’ mouths watering.

Solution
To increase engagement, we came up with a giveaway in which followers could win a free sushi date for 2. Participants had to follow the foodie influencer and @sushitoday, like the video and tag the person they wanted to go on a sushi date with, and got an extra chance by sharing the post in their story. This strategy helped us not only reach local customers, but also actively engage them and bring them back to the restaurants.
Impact
The campaign had a big impact. Through targeted influencer marketing we saw a significant rise in Sushi Today’s visibility in the local community. Working with foodie influencers led not only to thousands of new likes and followers on Sushi Today’s social media channels, but also to greater brand awareness and more reservations. The giveaway got no fewer than 7,378 likes and 7,009 comments on the post, creating huge engagement. The influencers’ visual content and the appealing giveaway drove active interaction, resulting in new customers and word of mouth. The strategy also helped spark renewed interest in the restaurant, which had a direct positive effect on foot trafficFoot traffic: the number of people who actually walk into the restaurant. and revenue, especially after the coronavirus measures.
